Why OREZ?

We all come from somewhere. We are shaped by the values, traditions, and stories passed down through the generations. In my case, I am the product of my parents' values, customs, and the culture they shared with me.

The name OREZ reflects those roots. It was created by combining two syllables from my family's surnames—OR from my mother's last name, Ortiz, and EZ from my father's last name, Perez. Together, they became OREZ, a name that reflects the roots and the values that shaped me.

To my surprise, I later discovered "Orez" means "rice" in Hebrew. That discovery gave the name an even deeper meaning.

Rice is one of the few foods shared across cultures around the world. It appears on the tables of families from every continent, regardless of geography, tradition, or social status. Simple yet essential, it adapts to each culture, taking on the unique flavors, ingredients, and customs of the people who prepare it.

But rice is more than a grain. Across many cultures, it is associated with abundance, fertility, prosperity, and well-being. It is often part of wedding traditions as a symbol of prosperity and a hopeful future. Rice-centered meals can bring families and communities together, while the cultivation of rice connects people to nature, agriculture, and the cycles of the land.

Rice is a connection—to people, to culture, and to nature.

That idea resonates deeply with my approach to architecture.

At OREZ Architecture, we believe great design should respond to the people and communities it serves. Like rice, architecture should adapt to its cultural context while remaining authentic to its purpose. Every project is unique, shaped by the client's aspirations, the character of its place, and the values that define it.
