PROJECT: GABLE ADU

LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CA

TYPE: RESIDENTIAL

The design is limited in size, yet unlimited in experience. This 800-square-foot ADU embraces modern living without feeling like a home tucked into a backyard. A generous gable roof rises above a quiet, minimal wall base, becoming the protagonist of the architecture and giving the small dwelling a sense of presence and permanence.

Inside, the spaces unfold with an unexpected sense of generosity, creating the feeling of living in a much larger home. The vaulted ceiling over the living room and kitchen draws the eye upward, amplifying the perception of volume and allowing light and air to move freely through the space. The living room extends toward the outdoors, opening onto an interior patio that brings nature into the heart of the home while a surrounding wall preserves a sense of privacy. The result is a quiet tension between openness and enclosure—an intimate outdoor room that feels both connected and protected.

Small in footprint but not in spirit, the house refuses to be modest in its ambitions. It is compact, yet expansive; simple, yet generous—a small home with no hesitation to express grandeur.
